Abstract
► A large sample of new channels was analyzed. ► 83% of new channels occurred following initial strokes. ► In these cases the previous interstroke time interval is not an important parameter. ► A larger interstroke time interval is an important factor in the creation of a new channel only when two or more strokes have used the previous channel.
