Abstract

This study shows a novel method evaluating rain rates (and not rain amount only) from the usual Tipping-bucket rain records. This method is based on the linearization of the rain amount–time response between two tips and the reading of the rain amount increment using a “moving window” of the length of the integration time (one minute) and with the step of the moving of one second in order not to omit higher rain rates. Examples and comparisons with other existing methods are added. After 83 rain events analysis it was proved that the novel technique is accurate and useful.
