Abstract

•Remediation of arsenic hazards in soils through aromatic plants•Research gaps for sustainable phytoremediation of arsenic hazards are outlined.•Concept proposal for phytoremediation of arsenic contaminated soils with economic return.

The present article briefly describes a strategy to address an opportunity in remediation and management of arsenic-contaminated soils through the cultivation of aromatic plants. Furthermore, our concept-based proposal offers sustainable phytoremediation for the utilization of arsenic-contaminated soils by the cultivation of aromatic plants along with economic return. However, the experimental studies are required to assess the risk of arsenic contamination to the end product—the essential oil.
