Abstract
⺠E. coli O157 was able to grow in competition with an aquatic bacterial community. ⺠Pathogen growth was considerably restricted in the presence of competitors. ⺠Elevated AOC, temperature and dilution rate increased competitive fitness. ⺠Competition outcome was explained by measured growth properties in pure culture.
