Abstract
⺠The extended finite element was used to simulate transient leakage from perforated aquifers. ⺠XFEM approach is generally useful for simultaneously modelling regional and local flow phenomena. ⺠Convergence behaviour of XFEM considerably better than that of conventional FEM. ⺠Significantly fewer degrees of freedom needed to simulate identical systems.
