Abstract
⺠We presented a new index for the westward shift of the Yellow Sea warm tongue. ⺠We also presented a method to exactly determine the SST fronts. ⺠The fronts and compensating effects cause the westward shift of the warm tongue. ⺠The other dynamics indirectly modulate the westward shift via influencing the fronts.
