Abstract
⺠Bacterial abundance increased in upwelled water in oligotrophic South China Sea (SCS). ⺠N:P ratio was >16:1 in the northern SCS and the Pearl River estuarine coastal plume. ⺠Phosphorus addition increased bacterial production by 20-30% in these two regions.
