Abstract
⺠We evaluate plankton biomarkers as proxies for past export productivity. ⺠Not all sedimentary biomarkers represent overlying waters conditions. ⺠Only δ13C values reflect productivity in overlying waters. ⺠Different compounds show different reactivities depending on the setting.
