Abstract
⺠Sources of stratification can be quantified from field measurements at a site. ⺠Degrees of stratification can show an apparent response to residual circulation. ⺠Ekman veering can be substantial in shallow, stratified coastal waters. ⺠Stratification is the outcome of a delicate balance of counteracting processes. ⺠Density topography becomes complex when a buoyancy source is distributed.
