Abstract
⺠A variational formulation of global planetary shallow water dynamics is presented. ⺠Noether's methodology is generalized to derive consequences of near symmetries. ⺠Consequences of near spherical symmetry of planetary fluid dynamics are derived. ⺠Integral angular momentum equations are presented for planetary fluid dynamics. ⺠Euler's rigid body equations are presented as a special case of our results.
