Abstract
⺠Growth rates of scallops are not at steady state but themselves dynamic. ⺠Pecten maximus (L.) records growth striae daily. ⺠A mathematical function (mean daily growth rate) simulates a damped oscillation. ⺠A typical representation of compensatory and an adaptive strategy.
