Abstract
⺠We investigate the effect of surface wave breaking on surface boundary layer. ⺠Idealized 2-D cases reveal surface boundary layer deepening due to wave breaking. ⺠3-D model simulations confirm the role of wave breaking in the Yellow sea in summer. ⺠Suitable empirical coefficients in parameterization of wave breaking are suggested.
