Blocks and support varieties

We describe the block decomposition of thick subcategories of the stable category of kG-modules where G is a finite group and k is a field of characteristic p dividing the order of G. Of particular interest are the thick subcategories determined by single lines in the support variety. Among other things, we demonstrate a strong connection with Linckelmann's theory of block cohomology.
