Abstract

Let N be a normal subgroup of the group G. By a result of P. Hall, G is nilpotent if N and G/N′ are nilpotent. We are looking for group classes C and characteristic subgroups f(N) of N such that the statement above, with (belongs to C, f(N)) substituted for (is nilpotent, N′), remains true.
