Abstract
We describe a new algorithm for computing automorphism groups and checking isomorphism of nilpotent finite dimensional associative algebras over a finite field. The algorithm can also be applied to modular group algebras and thus yields a new approach for checking the modular isomorphism problem. We report on its application to the groups of order dividing 28 and 36.
