Abstract
Let L(X) and L(Y) be the algebras of all bounded linear operators on infinite dimensional complex Banach spaces X and Y, respectively. We characterize additive maps from L(X) onto L(Y) preserving different quantities such as the nullity, the defect, the ascent, and the descent of operators.
