Abstract
Using the method of new characteristic coordinates and the singularity theory of smooth mappings, in this paper we analyze the long-time behavior of smooth solutions for one-dimensional quasilinear hyperbolic systems, give a complete description of the solutions close to blow-up points, and provide some sharp estimates on the blow-up rate of singularities.
