Abstract
This paper characterizes sequences of vectors that are the orbits of a linear operator and sequences of vectors in a Hilbert space that are orbits of a unitary operator. The latter is applied to time series. Sequences of vectors in a Hilbert space that generalize random walks are also shown to be the orbits of a bounded linear operator.
