Abstract
We give a survey of Jun-iti Nagataʼs many contributions to dimension theory: characterizations of n-dimensional metric spaces in terms of a special base; characterizations of n-dimensional metrizable spaces in terms of a special metric; imbedding theorems and universal spaces for n-dimensional metric spaces; countable-dimensional metric spaces; dimension and rings of continuous functions; dimension theory beyond metric spaces.
