Abstract

We investigate a general near-Hamiltonian system on the plane whose unperturbed system has a nilpotent center. Our main purpose is to give an algorithm for calculating the first coefficients of the expansion of the first order Melnikov function. We also give an application by using the method and obtain the number of limit cycles of a cubic system.
