Abstract

Resource estimation for variables having skewed distribution certainly needs holistic approachand pertinent selection of estimation method. In the present paper, a comparative study has been carried out for the resource estimation of an Iron ore deposit by both Linear and non-linearGeo-statistical estimation method. The data set is having multiple populations and negatively skewed. The resource of the same ore zone has been estimated by both linear and non-linear Geo-statistical estimation methods. It was found that for this specific deposit non-linear Geo-statistical estimation method predicts much closure to the realty as compared to linear method. The present case study area is located in regions of Bonai-Keonjhar belt in the state of Orissa. SURPAC mine planning software is used as tool for accomplishing all sorts of Geo-statistical analysis and estimation of grades.
