Abstract
⺠The release of a dry-snow slab avalanche is a fracture process. ⺠The two most relevant properties are weak layer fracture energy and slab stiffness. ⺠We determined weak layer fracture energy from 150 propagation saw tests. ⺠The resulting values were on the order of 1 J mâ2. - substantially larger than the only previously published value.
