Abstract
⺠We investigated the deep structure of the Venezuelan Andes from a 3D geological model. ⺠The 3D model clearly displays the 3D shape and organisation of the main faults. ⺠The partitioning and the tectonic escape of the belt are explained by a single process of orogenic float. ⺠The upper crustal part of the Venezuelan Andes are decoupled from the underlying lithosphere above a horizontal décollement level.
