Abstract
►Calculating organic carbon accumulation rates in mangrove forests, margins and mudflats along Brazilian coast. ►Northeastern region of Brazil is sequestering substantially more OC than in the Southeastern areas. ►Mangrove forests of the Southeastern regions of Brazil may be more susceptible to the rising sea level. ►The relation between sediment accumulation rates and sea level rise and constricted mangrove forests (geologically or anthropogenically) may be of great interest in terms of the global carbon budget, given that mangrove forest sediments are considered as efficient carbon sinks.
