Abstract
► Internal-wave deposits (internalites) are described. ► They formed from tractive up- and down-dip flows caused by breaking internal waves. ► Stacking of internalites reflects sediment-input changes and pycnocline fluctuation. ► A depositional model for sandy-oolitic internalites in mid-ramp setting is presented. ► Criteria for differentiating internalites from tempestites are provided.
