Abstract
⺠P-wave anisotropic tomography was determined under central Japan. ⺠The central portion of the mantle wedge is relatively isotropic. ⺠Fast-velocity directions are generally in a trench-parallel and trench-normal pattern. ⺠The fossil anisotropy of the Philippine Sea plate may be preserved. ⺠The fossil anisotropy of the upper portion of the Pacific slab may be rebuilt.
