Abstract
⺠High-velocity friction experiments demonstrate coseismic serpentine dehydration. ⺠Serpentine dehydration was caused by both the friction heating and heat diffusion. ⺠FTIR and TG-DSC analyses show that all water in the slipping zone was released. ⺠Rapid thermal pressurization led to a pronounced weakening of seismic fault zone.
