Cannibalism of olivine-rich cumulate xenoliths during the 1998 eruption of Piton de la Fournaise (La Réunion hotspot): Implications for the generation of magma diversity

► The 1998 eruption at PdF emitted, through the same conduit, 2 types of basaltic magmas. ► They derive from the same magma which assimilated xenoliths at shallow depth. ► It suggests the existence of heterogeneity in the shallow structure in the edifice.
