Origin of metabasites from upper tectonic unit of the Lavrion area (SE Attica, Greece): Geochemical implications for dual origin with distinct provenance of blueschist and greenschist's protoliths

► We focus on new geochemical data in order to interpret the geotectonic evolution of the metabasites from Lavrion area. ► We give answers about the petrogenetic processes and the primary sources applied on the protoliths of the metabasites. ► The tectonic setting of formation of the magmatic protoliths is different for blueschist's and greenschist's protoliths. ► The protoliths of the Lavrion metabasites support a dual origin. ► We conclude that there are different sources for the generation of parental magma(s) of metabasite protoliths.
