Abstract

Several archaeomagnetic intensities have been obtained on pieces of enamelled tiles that were part of the decoration (zellij) of the royal necropolis named Saadien Tombs (Marrakech, Morocco). Thermoluminescence dating confirms that the tombs were built in the late 16th C AD, during the reign of sultan Ahmed al-Mansur. Archaeointensities were determined using the 14.4 GHz Microwave system at the University of Liverpool, pTRM and pTRM tail checks are positive and the intensity values show low dispersion grouping around 42 μT.
