Abstract
•Nature of Cryogenian felsic igneous rocks in Madagascar is reevaluated.•Most of these rocks show intra-plate affinity.•Probably arc-related rocks are only present within the Bemarivo domain.•The development of the “Anosyen forearc basin” is argued against.
