Abstract

The discussion of Saha et al. (Precambrian Research, 2012). doi:101016/j.precamres.2012.03.004, (2012) Tectono-magmatic evolution of the Mesoproterozoic Singhora basin, central India: Evidence for compressional tectonics from structural data, AMS study and geochemistry of basic rocks, in Precambrian Research, is placed within the broader context of what is known and what is unknown about the shallow crustal deformation structures and the interplay of deformation in the basement and cover rocks.

► The Singhora Group of the Chhattisgarh cover succession, central India does not record any regional-scale folding deformation. ► Local folds are a consequence of reactivation of basement faults. ► This discussion of a previous paper by Saha et al. (2012) argues for a local explanation for structures of the Singhora Group.
