Abstract
⺠Water-magma interaction drove the evolution of the eruption of Montaña Pelada. ⺠Proximal deposits suggest high W/M ratios at the beginning of the eruption. ⺠Turbulent pyroclastic surges indicate lower W/M ratios and higher effective fragmentation. ⺠The new hydrological conditions allowed the input of phreatic waters, increasing the W/M and reducing the fragmentation degree.
