Abstract
► First time reporting of a paleoearthquake occurred during Late Pleistocene in Pinjaur Dun, northwestern Himalaya. ► Trench excavation survey for detailed paleoseismic survey reveals large magnitude (M7) earthquake in Pinjaur Dun. ► Earthquake induced deformation features corroborate the manifestation of the paleoseismic event. ► The late Pleistocene fault substantiates the seismic potential of Pinjaur Dun and calls for more exhaustive studies. ► Newly recognized active fault traces in the Pinjaur Dun are capable of generating large magnitude earthquakes.
