Abstract

This excursion report describes briefly the ecclesiastical geology of seven localities in West London. It reveals that building stones related to local geology were particularly important in the construction of early churches. For this reason wall building fabric analyses of churches are also able to indicate an enormous amount of local geological information. Where London Basin rocks were unsuitable for structural aspects of these churches it was sometimes necessary to use rock types from more distant sources.
