Abstract
► We find bounds on the energy dissipation in the Earth's core. ► These bounds are compatible with a constraint derived from the momentum balance in the core. ► The bounds, though rigorous, are disappointingly low. ► Consequently they do not constrain the core's energy budget very tightly.
