Abstract

The test on consolidation of dredger fill was conducted by preinstalled cube grid in the dredger fill. The settlement of consolidation and dissipation of excess pore water pressure were analyzed. The test results showed that the development of settlement of consolidation includes slow rise stage, accelerated rise stage and sharp decelerated rise stage. More than eighty percent of the settlement is completed in the ten percent of consolidation time. Eq. (1) is just a fitting equation that depends on the conclusion of the test to determine the fitting parameters (applicable only to the specific conditions representing a given test). The dissipation of excess pore water pressure includes slow decline stage, accelerated decline stage and sharp decelerated decline stage. More than eighty percent of the excess pore water pressure is removed in the ten percent of consolidation time. There is a critical value for the volume of cell cube grid. When the minimum volume of cell cube grid is less than the critical value, it is not effective to decrease time of consolidation.

► Development of settlement ratio and excess pore water pressure ratio includes three stages. ► More than eighty percent of the settlement is completed in ten percent of consolidation time. ► More than eighty percent of excess pore water pressure is removed in ten percent of consolidation time. ► We get an empirical formula which describes the relationship between settlement and time ratio. ► There is a critical value for the volume of cell cube grid.
