Abstract

The first Devonian fossils in Brazil were discovered in the Maecuru Formation (Amazon Basin) in the second half of the 19th century. Since then, this formation has been found to contain a very diverse fauna. However, only four species of echinoderms, all from the class Crinoidea, were known until now. Herein, this diversity is nearly tripled with the description of eight crinoid species and the revision of a previously described one (Exaesiodiscus aff. E. dimerocrinosus), including five new species (øLaudonomphalus ferreirai, øMarettocrinus katzeri, øMarettocrinus hartti, øExaesiodiscus derbyi, and øPentaridica mendesi) and two new occurrences (Thylacocrinus sp., and øEurax opercularis). The presence of these species in the Maecuru Fm. adds new data to the Middle Devonian relationships between the Amazon Basin and the northern Gondwana basins (north of Africa and Armorica).
