Abstract
The Duibian B section, Zhejiang Province, South China, has been proposed as a GSSP candidate for the base of the Stage 9, the second stage of the Furongian Series, Cambrian. The base of Stage 9 coincides with the first appearance of the cosmopolitan agnostoid Agnostotes orientalis. In the Duibian B section, a small conodont fauna has been found about 10Â m above the base of the A. orientalis Zone, in an interval assigned to the Eolotagnostus trilobite Zone. The conodont association with species of Coelocerodontus, Furnishina, Hertzina, Muellerodus, Phakelodus, Proacodus, Prooneotodus, Prosagittodontus, and Gen. et sp. indet., is assigned to the Westergaardodina cf. calix-Prooneotodus rotundatus Zone. Among the re-identified conodont elements, Proconodontus muelleri is not recognized.
