A review of control loop monitoring and diagnosis: Prospects of controller maintenance in big data era

In this article, the major progress of control loop monitoring and diagnosis is reviewed. From a practical standpoint, some implementation problems that may discourage large-scale applications of CPA are also discussed. The final goal of CPA is to achieve an automated workflow of controller monitoring, diagnosis and maintenance. To reach this ambitious goal, necessary process information should be synthesized, and big data introduces promising opportunities for development of CPA because useful information is hidden in massive process data and is potential to be mined. From the viewpoint of synthesizing abundant information in the context of big data, some prospective ideas and promising approaches aimed at promoting industrial applications of CPA are outlined.118
