Abstract
Low temperature properties of the styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) modified asphalt binder and aged SBS modified asphalt binder containing rejuvenators were investigated using conventional methods (penetration and ductility at 5 °C), Fraass breaking point test, dynamic shear rheometer (DSR), force ductility test and bending beam rheometer (BBR). Effects of the aging and the contents and characteristics of the rejuvenator on these properties were studied. The results indicated that aging declined low temperature properties of SBS modified asphalt binder, and the rejuvenators improved low temperature properties of aged SBS modified asphalt binder. The degrees of improvement increased with rejuvenator content and were influenced by rejuvenator type. The study also showed a statistically linear correlation between different low temperature parameters. But the penetration at °C may not a good parameter to evaluate the low temperature properties of asphalt binder.
