Abstract
Mode II creeping crack tip fields with three terms from an asymptotic analysis under plane strain conditions are presented in this paper. Comparisons among the three term asymptotic solutions, finite element (FE) results and HRR solutions are made for boundary layer model (BLM) and single edge notched (SEN) specimen. Two typical power-law materials having different creep exponents are adopted for the numerical analyses. Results show that the three term asymptotic solutions coincide with the FE results quite well for all cases at both transient creep and extensive creep stages. It indicates that the three term solution is sufficient to characterize the full mechanics field of a mode II creep crack under various conditions. Some typical fracture parameters under creep conditions are extended and discussed. The effect of creep time on the integration constant In under mode II case is also studied and discussed.
