Abstract

•Non-noble metal based catalysts were prepared by solution combustion method.•Nanostructured Zr1 -xNixO2 catalysts exhibited the best catalytic performance than Ni/ZrO2 for CO-SELMET.•Zr1 -xNixO2 contributed to high activity within the widest operating temperature window (170–250 °C).

Highly efficient non-noble metal based catalysts (Zr1 − xNixO2) showed outstanding catalytic performance at lower temperature for selective CO methanation. The characterization techniques revealed that Zr1 − xNixO2 catalyst contained uniformly dispersed Ni particles with strong interaction between Ni and ZrO2.
