•Fe2O3-doped Pt/SO42 −/ZrO2 was prepared by a constant pH co-precipitation method.•Doping Fe2O3 into Pt/SO42 −/ZrO2 enhanced Brønsted acidity and metal function of Pt.•The addition of Fe2O3 to Pt/SO42 −/ZrO2 improved the catalytic performance markedly.•Pt/SO42 −/ZrO2–Fe2O3 exhibited a constant catalytic performance for at least 80 h.
A series of Fe2O3-doped (1–5%) Pt/SO42 −/ZrO2 were prepared by a co-precipitation method. The incorporation of small amounts of Fe2O3 into Pt/SO42 −/ZrO2 results in an enhanced Brønsted acidity in the presence of H2, which makes the Fe2O3-doped catalysts much more active than the undoped one for n-heptane hydroisomerization. A maximal yield of C7 isomers appears at 3.5% Fe2O3.
