Abstract
A probe model of wear degree under a sliding wear is established by using the Rk parameter set referring to ISO 13565-2. Four wear degrees are defined as peak-region, core-region, valley-region and deep scratch periods. The Rk parameter set serves as wear-degree-evaluation indexes. A surface-surface dry sliding experiment of silicon-carbide and carbon-graphite (widely used in mechanical face seals) discs is performed on a rotational tribological tester to demonstrate the new model. The results show that the Rk-parameter-set probe can qualitatively assess wear degree. Furthermore, the possibility of quantitative analysis is also rendered by analyzing the evolution of the relative change of Rvk and the relative wear depth as the test duration increases.
