Abstract
The purpose of the present study addresses to identify and compare different coherent flow patterns gathered by means of Time-Resolved Stereo Particle Image Velocimetry (TR-SPIV) within the side channel of a Regenerative Flow Pump (RFP). Common Average approaches, as well as a Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) are applied on multiple 2D planes spanning over the third dimension for a single Operating Point. By comparing the strongest patterns for different measurement planes in terms of structure and energy, it is possible to gain new insights into the complex flow dynamics within the side channel, enabling to uncover the interplay of different planes, therefore the derivation of the 3D character of the flow dynamics. Multiple planes along the height of the side channel of the pump are discussed.
