Abstract
In this paper, observability for nonlinear systems is considered, and a relationship between its characterization by time derivatives of output variables and the notion of persistent excitation is proposed. Such a relationship can be useful for convergence analysis of some available observers, as well as for construction of persistently exciting inputs. Some related illustrative examples are finally given.
