Abstract
The paper presents a comparative approach to development of industrial type controllers by means of two methods: using factory-made Programmable Logic Controllers and designing the controllers on the basis of one-chi p microcontrollers. Advantages and shortages of the both methods are presented, although the authors prove that microcontrollers should be taken into account as a cheap, reliable and flexible solution to assure control of industrial objects. The conclusions are made after detailed step-by-step analysis of individual features and functionalities required from industrial controllers.
