Abstract
The aim of the present study is to examine the effect of feed rate and cutting speed on cutting forces and surface roughness in dry turning of nano-hybrid composites. The nano composites were prepared from Al2219 alloy matrix with n-B4C, n-B4C/MoS2 particulates using stir casting process and uniform distributions of n-B4C and n-B4C/MoS2 particles were observed by SEM and confirmed with EDS analysis. The micro hardness of the nano composites increases with increases in n-B4C/MoS2 particles. The result reveals that the increase in feed rate and addition of n-B4C particulates increase the surface roughness and cutting force of nano composites, whereas reduces by means of increase in cutting speed. The blend of plastic deformation and abrasion marks observed on machined surface. Built-up edge (BUE) was observed on uncoated carbide tool while turning of n-B4C/MoS2 composite at lower cutting speed. The TiN coated carbide offer better performance than the uncoated carbide tool.
