Abstract
This paper shows the approach how to choose the input parameters for DIC method. An error of a measurement depends on template subset size, search region size texture quality. The influence of the first two parameters is demonstrated on the example of material with homogeneous deformation. The view of displacement vector fields is analyzed and standard errors for displacements and deformation are calculated. Two thresholds for input parameters are found, where minimal subset size is related to an image texture quality, while the second threshold is defined by the requirement that the subset must fall within the search area of the deformed image. The influence of fractal textures of artificial images and its noise on subset size is demonstrated by modeling Monte-Carlo method. Fractal dimension is proposed to characterize the quality of an image texture. Formulas and analysis are given to diminish the error of DIC measurements and evaluate the input parameters.
